CHIN NATIONAL DAY

By S. Khup Cin Pau

Introduction

Today my theme is One People, One Identity The Chin Christian Fellowship Singapore, (Sayama Betty & Michael) has prepared to celebrate the Chin National Day by singing some old favourites of Mizo melodies, Lai tunes and Zomi songs like Zo Gam and Tun Sung Khat.

For some time I had thought of the need to emphasize solidarity and unity among our people because we have been losing our identity when those who emphasize our Zomi name and those who feel that we need to go on with our historical name lest we will marginalize our identity if we disown the name Chin at this juncture in our history.

Burma 2010: Will it Produce Free and Fair Election?

Htun Aung Gyaw

The Burmese xenophobic general finally announced the election commission law 1/2010 and political party registration law 2/2010, which people have been waiting for since 2008. But after examining the content of the laws, it shows dim hope for real change.

In the commission law, the commission members have six requirements to become members and a chair of the commission.

(The unwavering emblem of Burmese National Character)

When it come to national character I could not stay aloof, even though my eye specialist refrain me to working too much on computer, as I have just celebrated by 73rd birthday. In my earlier essay I have highlighted of how the success of the coming unfair elections will depend on the third party participating and now the NLD is at the cross road. If one were to look back at the not so recent history of modern Burma, it starts with the concordat at Panglong Conference where the ethnic nationalities decided to throw their lot with the Myanmar/Burman to gain independence from Britain. The authentic Burmese national characteristic of Union of Burma (Pyidaungsu Thar jynfaxmifpkom;) torch by our beloved Bogyoke Aung San was short lived as the civilian government could not solve the ethnic grievances and the end result was the military administration came into power in 1959 as a caretaker and three years later in a
coup de'é tat.

                     (FOUR GENERATIONS OF GRAHAM TRADITION)

                                                                                               J.M. Ngul Khan Pau

In commemoration of her parents' 50th wedding anniversary, Gigi Tchividjian Graham, Billy and Ruth Graham's eldest child, shares an intimate memoir of her family heritage. Gigi reflects on the privilege of growing up in the family of Billy and Ruth Graham.

The title PASSING IT ON draws from the death bed exhortation of grandmother Graham to granddaughter Gigi, regarding their faith to "pass it on" to her children. She reflects on the principles and lessons learned by four generations of children, Graham parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, who consider it a priority to "pass on" the instructions given to Moses in Deuteronomy 6:6-7, which reads: "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up"
